The Lunar Museum of Art

LUMA

The Lunar Museum of Art (LUMA) is the first universal embassy for humanity’s creative envoys.

Curated with digital art that's actually been sent to the Moon, LUMA’s global community of artists, scientists and visionaries are shaping the future of the art, technology and space interface and share a passion for democratizing access to this new and compelling frontier. Built for those that have the audacity to dream, LUMA is a unique museum designed to inspire and create a sense of wonder and abundance for all who visit.

LUMA also presents an innovative new model for global museums, creating a bridge between digital and physical collections and providing traditional museums with extended exhibition, scientific, digital and educational solutions.

Reaching for the

COSMOS

The tradition of art on the Moon is a lesser-known but fascinating aspect of space exploration, blending human creativity with scientific achievement. One of the earliest artistic contributions to the lunar surface came from the Apollo 12 mission in 1969. As part of this mission, astronauts secretly carried a small ceramic tile featuring a tiny etching called Moon Museum, which contained drawings by six renowned artists, including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Claes Oldenburg. This clandestine artwork, attached to the leg of the Lunar Module Intrepid, marked one of the first instances of art making its way beyond Earth. Since then, the Moon has continued to inspire artistic expression, with subsequent missions and projects incorporating sculptures, music, and even performance art in lunar-themed works. The placement of art on the Moon symbolizes humanity’s innate desire to leave cultural as well as scientific footprints beyond our home planet.

In November 2022, LUMA took part in the Moon Village Association (MVA) Workshop and Symposium in Los Angeles, where it engaged with international stakeholders to expand its cultural and artistic network.

In 2022, LUMA block chained the first NFT in space of a Tamara Ashburn painting, Dragonfly #11, onboard the International Space Station.
